Pictures of people with their stuff and more on the Book of Nine Scribes

Greetings Spectacular Backers!

No real super news, just wanted to say that the shipping continues, and stuff continues to go out on a regular basis.  I also wanted to add a few videos and pics.

Because some of you have been asking, this is the original video on the original Deluxe Book of Nine Scribes from approximately three years ago, including how it was originally designed.  Plus some generally good advice on all of these books...

These are some pics and a video people have sent me showing off their stuff.  Feel free to send me more, as I love to see them.

Things I've learned about shipping
over 2 years ago – Mon, Aug 08, 2022 at 07:15:00 AM

Oh Ye Mighty Backers...

So this isn't my first Kickstarter, and yet I continue to learn new things as I go.  There are also some things that I know, that I feel I should pass on to you all...

  • I estimated a higher cost of shipping due to COVID, but even charging what I thought was significantly more than the last KS, international shipping is WAY WAY higher than it was three years ago.  Not to worry too much, I had some money set aside for contingencies, but wow, I'm taking a big hit in shipping.  I'm afraid the next KS will have to charge shipping as you close out your order based on actual shipping costs to the country you are in.  Domestic shipping I got pretty much right on the money.
  • Whenever I print out a shipping label, I hit a little "Send Tracking Notification" button that should, in theory, send you an email telling you the tracking number for your package.  So, once your specific package is in the mail, you should know it almost immediately.  Possibly even before it gets scanned at the post office.  If anyone can confirm or deny this, that would be ideal.
  •  A reminder to those of you in countries that charge VAT, you will be responsible for that.  I couldn't pay for it from here even if I wanted to.  Please keep an eye on your tracking information, especially if it looks like something gets stuck in customs.  It shouldn't, I use a pretty good customs form generation system, but sometimes international shipping can be wonky.
  • If I have my way, only the backers of this project will get all the scrolls and maps etc. rolled.  Any folks ordering these going forward, will get theirs folded.  Another bonus to you, Mighty Backers.  2" diameter (and in many cases, 2' long) tubes have made packaging much harder than I wanted it to be. But hey, I like you, and it gets you cool stuff in a cool way, so I'm all for it.  Many of you may be getting your big maps shipped separately, just so you know.

That sums it up for now... Stuff continues to go out in little bits, but regularly...

Awesome Backer Types!

Just wanted to drop these two pictures and a short video here... The first one is an idea one backer (Dustin) had for replacing the metal bits on the spine with leather strips and having them still appear to have a function.  The second one is a 3D printing my cousin did for his copy of the Deluxe original first KS book.

The Book of Nine Scribes and you... (that hinge issue)
over 2 years ago – Fri, Aug 05, 2022 at 09:57:33 PM

Hello wonderful backers!

OK, so, I love the content of the Book of Nine Scribes.  I think it is some of the best content I've ever done in a creative work like this.  I loved all the languages and variety worked in.  The Icelandic stuff was fun, the Japanese person who helped me with all the Japanese stuff was a true joy to work with, and it was awesome to find someone in India to write out the Hindi.  It was more story than the book before, and I loved loved loved everything about it...

Except... except... except... those spine hinges.  Dear Backers, I have literally lost count of the number of prototypes we've gone through on those hinges.  The first version, honestly, I felt wasn't strong enough, so for this version, we worked and tested and worked (I say "we", but I worked through a third party for all the metal bits with me just describing them, testing them, and revising the specs) and I was very excited that the new alloy was stronger than the last, and the loops were bigger, and overall everything about it was stronger...

And the prototype, I'm still not sure why, opened nearly all the way to the table.  It was a little tight, but it worked.

Very proud of this, we moved on to production.  Now, we have since learned, that the new hinges hold better (yay), but something about the spec is off enough that several of the books only open a partial percentage of what we thought they would.  So, there is no real trick to opening the book more, sadly.

If you bought the Deluxe Book of Nine Scribes, here are some options, although I fully admit none of these are ideal.

  • We are going to continue to work on a solution.  I'm thinking the next prototype will have a middle hinge half way through the spine, and see if that works.  If it does, we'll figure out some way to ship those out to those who want it.
  • You can take that back spine piece off.  It requires pulling out the pin, which is held together with epoxy and generally requires a pair of plyers to pull off.
  • Experiment and let me know if something else works so I can share it.

All that seems very pathetic to say, but that's all we've got right now.  We will continue to work on the problem, although obviously getting the initial books out first is the first priority.  I'm obviously unhappy with this, and again ask for your patience while we try to find a solution.  Thank you in advance.

Shipping has started!
over 2 years ago – Wed, Jul 27, 2022 at 10:41:34 PM

Yes, stuff has started to ship

AMAZING BACKERS, the good news is that stuff has started to ship.  They are relatively small shipments, like, double digits of packages, not triple digits, but they will be a constant stream from this point going forward.  It may not be super fast or all at once, but from here on out, books will continue to go from me to you.

If you get yours and want to post some pictures of you holding up your favorite page or wrapping yourself in the Hell Scroll or capturing that moment right before some demonic horror drags you off to some unnamed hellscape, please do so...

Again, this has been a very long ride, and I am SO SO happy to be able to start getting things out to the awesomeness that is you all.  Please be patient during this last stretch, and we will endeavor to get you your stuff as soon as we can...
